Radon is a natural gas you can’t see or smell. It comes from rocks and soil and is found everywhere, both indoors and outdoors. We all breathe in small amounts every day.
Radon can enter a home through tiny cracks in the floor or walls. If too much radon builds up inside, the gas can get into your lungs and cause damage.
Some areas of the UK have higher levels of radon because of the ground conditions. Levels can also change during the year. If radon builds up to high levels over time, it can increase the risk of lung cancer.
DIO and their partners have a plan to keep radon levels safe in Service Family homes. The only way to know the radon level in a home is to test it.
Specialist contractors carry out all radon work, including placing test pods, collecting them, and installing or servicing any equipment needed.
- Please let our teams into your home when they need to drop off or collect pods, or to install, service, or maintain equipment.
- Do not switch off or tamper with any radon equipment. It needs to stay on to work properly.
- If something isn’t working, call the Pinnacle Helpdesk on 0800 031 8628 as soon as possible.
We check radon levels in all Service Family homes in areas where radon may be a problem. This testing is usually done in winter when homes are less ventilated. Two test pods are placed in the home for at least a few weeks to measure the radon levels.
