Enhancing Your Home
We know it’s important to make your home suit your family. To give Service families more freedom, we’ve made it easier for you to make permanent changes to your home if you want to, using your own money.
There are now two types of permanent changes you can make:
Green category changes
You can do these straight away, either yourself or by hiring someone. You no longer need to tell DIO or Pinnacle. Your Housing Officer will simply record them when you move out.
Examples include:
- Putting up shelves
- Adding curtain poles, blinds or shutters
- Fitting coat hooks
- Using a battery‑powered doorbell
Amber category changes
These must be done by a qualified tradesperson because they involve more detailed work. You must tell DIO or Pinnacle before starting so they can give you the right safety and installation advice. You can do this through their new Permanent Enhancement Process.
Examples include:
- Installing an electric car charging point
- Adding outside power sockets
- Adding an outside tap
- Building a patio or garden decking
